As a Dx hunter on HF it’s kinda strange to be a youngster again on D-star.

What a details you need to learn to see what is all happening on that kinda medium.
First i bought a IC92D porto. I allready have a 2/70cm and HF tranciever so to have overkill with tranciever is not needed.

A porto is very mobile and can be taken with very easy to work or other places.

Ok where do you start. You need to register yourself on a repeater website. I’ve done that on PI1UTR.NL . After the registration i needed to send a copy of license.
Two days later i recieved a email that my account was ready to go.

The next step is getting the setting correct on the repeater and load a correct icf file to my IC92D. After changing the call and message i’ve updated my porto.
Everything was working but i did see on thing missing. I was not vissible on the reflectors. I’ve asked a few people but they could not tell me why. I’ve waited for two days. Maybe this has to update on the reflectors. Johan PA3GER remebered that a setting had to be done to get yourself vissible on the reflectors.

If found this explanation on http://ircddb.net/live-vis.html

**** HOW TO SET ****

VIS ON
VIS ONmeansvisibility on”. In this mode, detailed information about your transmissions (e.g. time, length and TX message) are shown in theLive Logand in theLastHeardlist. This information is available on the Internet, and can therefore be processed automatically by other systems. If someone sees this as somewhat problematic, he or she might not want to enable this option.

VIS ONcan be activated in a very simple way. PutVIS___ONin the YOURCALL field of your transceiver and press PTT once on a repeater which is connected to the ircDDB network. After that put something different in YOURCALL, e.g. “CQCQCQ__”. The settingVIS___ONwill be stored permanently on the network. You only have to do this procedure once. You can check if this procedure worked by looking at theLive Logweb page: http://ircddb.net/live.htm. Your call sign should appear from now on if you press PTT.

Example: local repeater DB0DF, module B

YourCall: VIS___ON
RPT1: DB0DF__B
RPT2: DB0DF__G

The character _ must be exchanged with a space character.

VIS OFF
VIS OFFmeansvisibility off”. In this mode, only the call sign of the repeater where you pushed PTT the last time is stored internally in the IRCDDB system. This is necessary for call sign routing to work properly. This information is only shared with other repeaters and is not visible on the Internet.
In theLive LogandLastHeardlists, your call sign will be masked, both in the MyCall field of your own transmissions and in transmissions made by others who might have used your call sign in UrCall. Your TX message will also be masked.

VIS OFFcan be activated in a very simple way. PutVIS__OFFin the YOURCALL field of your transceiver and press PTT once on a repeater which is connected to the ircDDB network. After that put something different in YOURCALL, e.g. “CQCQCQ__”. The settingVIS__OFFwill be stored permanently on the network. You only have to do this procedure once. You can check if this procedure worked by looking at theLive Logweb page: http://ircddb.net/live.htm. Your call sign should not appear any longer from now on if you press PTT.

Example: local repeater DB0DF, module B

YourCall: VIS__OFF
RPT1: DB0DF__B
RPT2: DB0DF__G

The character _ must be exchanged with a space character.

Default setting: VIS OFF
The default setting isVIS OFFfor all users. You have to enable visibility with the commandVIS ON” (see above) in order to appear on theLive Log”. If you want to keep the default settingVIS OFF”, you don’t have to do anything.

You can switch fromVIS ONtoVIS OFFand vice versa at any time.

Just another 2 cents on my knowledge
