Linking a reflector is easy. But when i’m in a car there is a better way to connect a reflector. The answer DTMF.

On my IC92D you can program 10 DTMF codes. When you hit PTT and then one key button with a DTMF code the repeater will instant connect to the requested reflector.I also found out that the old DPLUS-net can be connected with DTMF codes. Thats nice. btw it will only work on software that understands DTMF.

Easier and a lot saver on the road 🙂 Here a few examples..

DCS Reflectors

DCS001A = D1A = D101

1D = D1D = D104

DCS007A = D7A = D701

5B = D502

6Q = D617

Disconnect = #

xReflectors

X-Net XRF 10B = 10B

X-Net XRF 21B = 21B

DPlus-Net

REF 001 C = *1C

REF 005 A = *5A

A = 1

B = 2

C = 3

D = 4

E = 5

F = 6

G = 7

H = 8

I = 9

J = 10

K = 11

L = 12

M = 13

N = 14

O = 15

P = 16

Q = 17

R = 18

There are many programs to run D-star from a computer.
– Dvap-client
– DVaptool
– WinDv

The last is the one i’m running every day. PA4YBR updated the software on a free time base. As you know development takes its time. And nothing is for free. Fred is willing to develope but with a small amount of donation. In that way he will cooperate and update the software to the latest new things in D-star.
I’m now testing the latest WinDv 1.5.4 with the Dvdongle. Some minor bug are solved in this version

Changes in version 1.5.4:
* Internal module cleanups.
* Fixed some (textual) typos here and there.
* Updated IrcDDB module to properly handle the ddbhosts
database file, and pass its contents back to WinDV.
* Added “-l logpath” commandline option to put logfiles
in a folder other than the system “TEMP” folder.

Changes in version 1.5.3:
* Protocol updates for DPlus, DExtra and DCS to allow
for multiple streams, re-sending of header info and
so on.
* General cleanups and minor changes throughout.
* Added “DVRPTR” to the “Request Feature” list in the
“report a request or bug” item in the Help menu.
* Fully implemented the above after MANY requests for
it.
* Hopefully fixed the strangeness of double voice
messages when sending RF-based LINK/UNLINK commands.

It’s that funny to get. A swl card from a sort wave listener.
But the other way around it even more fun to get.
A friend of mine did receive a swl card for a Sort wave listener. But the fun part is that it was a qso with me. 🙂
The time and moments that we can make a qso are not often because Kelly lives in Colorado.
Normally I can only work the east or west coast. So a special moment with a special qsl 🙂

Tnx Kelly for sending me the copy of the card

As a youngster on D-star im learing new things every day.
Just by listening to other hams i now know how Call-sign routing works.

You having a QSO with a Ham on a reflector lets say DCS007U.
The next day you like to work this Ham again and like to call him direct via de call-sign routing.

The memmory in your Transciever and on the database of the  repeaters  knows where you last been heard.
In this way it may or may not work the call-sign routing.

How does it work on my IC-E92D

You are having a qso on a repeater link with the ham you are talking to.
For instance it is DCS007U.
The next day you like to call him again direct.

Just do the following steps.

Push CALL when holding the button you can rotate to the call you like to speak to.
Release the call button. The IC-E92D with send a double beep.
Now Push the talk button and what repeater you are the call-sign routing will try to call the person on the last known repeater reflector they have been.

If the station on the otherside changed the next day from reflector the call-sign routing will try to connect to the correct repeater and reflector, if the repeater support the call-sign routing.
Otherwise you will stay on the repeater and nothing will happen.

Dvap Dongle doesn’t support call-sign routing. It will only work on repeaters.

just another 2 cent of my knowledge

We all know that there are USB to RS232 dongles. There are a few chips that have been used ever sinds.

The populare chips are:

– ELTIMA
– Prolific
– FT232R

For the DVAP dongle they recommend the FT232R USB UART. At first i hooked up the DVAP dongle windows did install the drivers. I really thought it is working and supported bij Windows. But because i have a Microham and also used a Prolific usb dongle it did install those drivers.
Stable well not at all. Because of the differend driver chip the USB to RS232 was not stable. That triggerd me to find out why. I’ve updated the driver from Prolific to FT232R. I hope i do have a break true and a better and more stable situation then before.

The results are hugh. I used the DAVP dongle for the last couple of days. Well simple. Its working and working ever sinds.

So when you order a DAVP do remember to install the correct USB driver and if you use DVAPtool of WINdv that is a personal issue.

The recommened driver can be found >> HERE <<

What tests will be done:

– Change the firmware from 1.5 to 1.1 ( trying to get it stable)
Did not gave me any better solution to get the connection stable.

– Change the USB driver to FT232R ( testing)
This test gave me the output i wanne to have. A stable USB connection and its working ever sinds.

– Exchange the antenne to outside. ( just to exhange the range)
To exchange the antenne the DVAP dongle is getting a range of 2km in a circle. Thats great with only 10mw output and a vertikal antenne on a highest point of 15mtr.

Ok we all know that D-star can be connected true the internet to a DCS, REF, Xref reflector.
I’ve been reading some articles and found out that the baudrate for the voice data is only 950bytes. This has to work on 3G i would say.
This has never been tested by anyone in the Netherlands.

In the Netherlands there is a 3G network that can run on 7,2Mb down and 1Mbps up. The lowest bitrate is 1Mbps some are even faster up tot 14,4Mbps.
Resent i orderd a DVAP Dongle to play arround with.

A friend of mine PD1RB had the splendid idea to hook up his Iphone with his laptop when he is mobile. That on a 3G network.
If then he runs the Dvap Software and connects to a Reflector is should work and you can communicate to repeaters that are on the same Reflector.

Yesterday it was time to test this methode. Will it work. What will happen when you drive. How stable is the connection.

Here the results.

I hooked up my Iphone 3G > laptop > Dvap > IC92D
I connected the software to the DCS007B reflector this one is also connected to the Repeater PI1UTR in IJsselstein.

Results of the test.

Audio is prefect. Only a i did hear a few glides when you change from GSM repeater to GSM repeater.

The buggy part is only the Software and the USB driver of the DVAP dongle. This is crashing from time to time.

The 3G network from t-mobile is stable and works good.
The test is 100% succeeded

There is not much on the market to fix en stablize a porto in a mobile.
So people has to use there brains to get an idea how to fix it.

At first i had the idea to buy a Desk chager and fix this near my gear lever. But the Desk Loader was to big hmmmm.
I had to come up with another plane.

GSM holder as almost out of order. Mobile phone are most connect true Bluetooth so why need a car holder.
My GSM holder is a standard thing in the car. I never used it. Hmm maybe this is a good place to but my Desk loader.

See the result of 1 hour work. I can load the Porto with a portable smoke cable chager.
And if not i put it in my dashboard box.

CQCQ abd im portable on D-star.
