  HOW DOES THE ALPHA 89
DIFFER FROM THE
ALPHA 87A?		  
 
 
Their specifications for peak and average RF output, drive, distortion, and QSK performance are identical.The ALPHA 89 is manually tuned and doesn’t include remote control. Layout and tubes, as well as RF, power supply, and cooling systems, are essentially identical. Protective functions are comparable, the ’89 employing discrete logic for control instead of a microprocessor.
The ALPHA 89 will appeal to those serious users for whom its lower cost outweighs the ’87A’s one-second automatic bandchange / tuneup and computer remote control. Some may simply enjoy “tuning up” a maximum-legal-power brute!
