Also a member of our department reported that he also interference from plasma TVs. One is interference from its neighbors indirectly. His 20mtr further. The other was his own fault. That failure itself is solved by selling TV and switch to an LCD. Too crazy that you must upgrade to an LCD tv to fix the problem. This is shifting the problem. You wonder what standard are placed on a Plasma TV. And what can the Radiocommunications Agency do about this. I still have no answer to that question. The fault is not resolved. Than the manufacturer like to take the easy way. They clearly already know of this problem. I’m not be the first to report a problem like this.
So a handy tip for everyone. If your neighbors ask what should I buy. Let them buy an LCD. The chance to interfere is 90% not in this case.

But I heard a disturbing message. Whether this is true when I leave here a in the middle.
3D-TV is growing. The Blueray disc’n are already available also the TVs.
Because 3D need some attention they would like  to re-introduce the Plasma TVs.

The reason is because of the switching speed. LCD TVs are slower than Plasma TVs. LCD TVs would not properly give a good picture of 3d images. Nonetheless there are 3D TVs LCD (LED) market. Only you see that clock speeds have 200Hz. To be provide the process speed.
If this is going to be introduced, I fear the worst for the Ham Radio Hobby.

Conclusion Plasma = interfere. What brand it is. Samsung, LG or Panasonic it does not matter. In the beginning it can not interfere, but after some time or years, the unit will certainly give effect to what amateur radio don’t desire. “INTERFERENCE”

RaDAR is short for Rapid Deployment Amateur Radio. This is an international concept of Radio Amateurs being able to operate anywhere under all circumstances.
The goal is to setup an Amateur Radio station quickly on remote sites anywhere using only battery power. And anywhere means not only sites reachable by car but also on locations after a few miles walk. The 5×5 concept means being able to communicate by Amateur Radio within 5 minutes after arriving with the QRP power of 5 watts maximum.

Peter and Elmar will participate in the IARU HF SSB Fieldday (september 4-5) from the Dutch polders near the famous windmills of Kinderdijk. They will use their Yaesu FT-817 which means QRP only so keep your ears open!

The rest of the period they will be operating PD55RADAR in their free-time which will mainly be during the evenings

During his free time, he will concentrate on 10-40m, using a FT-897D (100w) and a vertical placed near the ocean. Prior to and after his Rodrigues activity, Giorgio may also operate from Mauritius (AF-049). Valuable assistance in obtaining a license and logistics goes to 3B8CF & 3B9WR.

ABOUT

The preminent activity will be from Rodrigues Island (3B9), the transmission from Mauritius Island (3B8) is just because I need to collect the licence in Port Luis. So I arranged few days of holidays also on in the main land of this Republic.

For few days I will transmit from a resort in the eastern part of Mauritius ( Iota AF-49), with a perfect path beaming Europe and USA. On saturday morning, I will flyt to Rodrigues with the daily ATR of Air Mauritius.

During my stay on the Island of Rodrigues I will be at the Cotton Bay Hotel. This hotel is the same of other previous and impressive dxpedition, so I feel myself shine to go in the same place, but in the island this is a really hamradio-friendly location.
During the activity I will be difficulties to check the email, and for sure I will not have any dxcluster to follow your comments. Sorry for this, but this is a “one man show” dxpedition in holiday style. So, I will be focused just few moment each day at the radio.
If, and when you listen me, remember my working condition: 100w and verticals. Time to time I will transmit with no more than 50W because in CW and RTTY the Vertical made by I1UJX require just 50 watts. So be patience and keep oll this thing in mind. Imagine this a IOTA expedition or something like that.

During my last experiences on the air I discover that time to time this is an hobby and I can take it easy!

Thanks to an email of Fredy, DE0MST, I discovered that my activity as 3B9/IZ4AKS will be valid for the WLOTA award. Frankly, I never followed any Lighthouse’s award, but this reference will make some “aficionados” really happy and I will add this LH 4265 on the QSL card.

Saba: The Unspoiled Queen

The smallest of the Netherlands Antilles, Saba (pronounced “sayba”) is a rocky volcanic island with a single road, lush mountain forests, and dominated by a dormant volcano.   It is located in the Caribbean sea, between St. Maarten and St. Eustatius.   It is only 5 square miles/13 square kilometers in size and has a population of about 1500.   There is excellent scuba diving, snorkeling and hiking making this tiny spot in the Caribbean a major mecca for eco-tourism and earning it the moniker “The Unspoiled Queen”.

Saba (along with nearby St. Eustatius) is scheduled to receive special municipality status from The Netherlands on October 10, 2010 (that’s “10/10/10″; easy to remember!)  On that day, the ARRL is expected to award DXCC Entity status to Saba/St. Eustatius and we’ll be there to activate this new entity.

Getting there may be less than half the fun.  The Saba airport, named “Juancho E. Yrausquin Airport”, is listed by the World Aviation Journal as one of the ten most dangerous aircraft landings in the world.

Yrausquin AirportSaba Airport: This small Caribbean island is a somewhat popular honeymoon destination, but flying into the beautiful Island isn’t a vacation – to say the least.  Landing an aircraft on one of the world’s shortest landing strips (1,300ft long), on a peninsula surrounded by 200ft tall sheer cliffs that fall into the ocean, is easier said than done.  Needless to say, larger planes aren’t able to fly into Saba Airport because of the short runway.  If you’re brave enough to fly into this airport, the beautiful scenery of Saba is an excellent reward for your courageous, and probably very stressful, flight.

PERSBERICHT DXCC ACTIVATIE ( Dutch)

Press release DXCC activation Bonaire ( english)

October 10, 2010 is a special day for Sint Maarten, as they gain their independence from Dutch rule.

To celebrate this historic event, a group of experienced DXers have teamed together to put this new country on the air.

After initial conversations between Joe Blackwell, AA4NN (nickname: Joe4) and Joe Pater, W8GEX (nickname: Joe8), a plan was formed.  When Joe 4 learned he had some health problems, Craig Thompson, K9CT, assumed the roll of co-leader.

We will operate six stations 24 hours a day for 10 days, starting on 10-10-10.  Our Band Plan includes 6M to 160M on CW, SSB, and RTTY.  

We invite you to explore this website, which will be updated frequently before and during the operation.  And don’t forget to sign our Guestbook!

The team is grateful for the opportunity to activate a new country and, hopefully, work thousands of other DXers worldwide.  This will be an exciting 10 days for all operators and the DX community.  We look forward to having fun and making life-long friends.
